Normally, a dog’s anal glands are naturally expressed during bowel movements. However, sometimes they can become blocked, requiring manual expression to release the fluid. If needed, your groomer will take care of this unpleasant and smelly task for you to prevent the glands from becoming enlarged, blocked, or developing an infection or abscess.
Scooting, excessive licking, straining while pooping, blood in your pup’s stool, or a fishy smell can all be signs of an anal gland problem.
